Okay, so I dropped off the face of the blog-o-sphere last January, but I’M BACK! This is just a post to let everybody know what is now in the works for the Trezy.com tumblog.
Yeah, I’m a graphic/web designer. That means I should be doing more stuff about my profession!
I got an iPad and so far I love it. I’ve made a lot of progress towards circumventing the problems for productivity presented by iOS, mostly thanks to Dropbox and jailbreaking. I’ll be telling you how to do all of that as well as highlighting some of my favorite apps for design, writing, gaming, and keeping in touch.
I’m trying to get my hands on a capacitive stylus So I can ACTUALLY draw on my iPad. Once I’ve got that done I would like to start doing a webcomic for the hell of it and it will most definitely end up on my Tumblog.
I remember very well a visit to Florida with my mother to see my aunt and uncle. One night my uncle and I were geeking out on his new computer and he showed me something I would never forget: Google.com. Given, it’s hard to avoid the existence of Google these days but what I remember about it so well was the impact it had on me. I had been using MSN Search and Yahoo! Search for so long that the simple interface seemed almost alien to me.
Today, more than a decade later, you can still go to Google.com and see the exact same page I saw that evening my uncle showed it to me with few modifications. They aimed for something and they got it oh-so-right. What makes Google different is their lack of concern about the revenue model. It’s not that they don’t care about making money but that their goal is to et the product perfect first, then make adjustments. In the early days people would always wonder how Google was going to make any money… Their response was usually, “right now, we’re focusing on how to make everything much easier to find online. In doing so, we believe that we’ll uncover a revenue model at some point.” And so they did.
This is just for all those who seem to believe that I’m taking my disdain for James Cameron’s new favorite FREE font… Pr*tty Sh*tty presents a wonderful blog in keeping with my ideals. Enjoy.
That’s right, I’m in Minnesota with my girlfriend visiting her family for the holidays. It’s a snowy wasteland outside and I have been informed that it will be getting worse between now and Saturday. Saturday, the day we were supposed to leave. Crap.
Since I’m stuck inside with no design software I decided that I would update with my latest typography rant… on how much I hate Papyrus.
No, not the old Egyptian material from which we derive the English word for paper, but rather the display font of the same name. Notice I said DISPLAY FONT. That’s important.
What sparked this? James Cameron’s visual masterpiece “Avatar”. What it lacked in a slightly dated story it made up for in beautiful CG and strangely appealing, scantily-clad alien women. So where does Papyrus and my disdain for it come in? In the subtitles, that’s where.
So come on in and tell me what you think! I’m likely going to start playing with the colors a bit and end up going back to my old monochrome style of whites, blacks and greys, but for now I’m with the times. Navy and pink is all the rage in web design right now, right?
Be sure to check out my updated portfolio and hit me up all social-like from the about page. More about what’s soon to come after the jump.
Google is building a new, experimental idea aiming to reshape the future of communication on the web. It’s called Wave, and if you believe its developer, it’s “what email would look like if it were invented today.”
What’s new in Wave?
Email has been the standard in online communications for the past 40 years. You send a message to your brother about the family reunion and he responds with the date he thinks is best. It’s totally convenient, right up until the point that you decide Aunt Martha would be better able to talk to your Arizona relatives. Aunt Martha unfortunately doesn’t know that she can send the email to everybody at once and then everybody replies to you to tell you that they think there should be a game of pin the tail on the donkey and then since you CC’d Aunt Martha you get these responses like 4 times and suddenly your inbox is filled with 100 responses to your original email and you have no idea where to start…
Okay, so I have been working on an idea for a new website dedicated to something I love… Stickjockery.
Stickjockery is what I like to call the combination of the sports Dagorhir and Belegarth. In these sports we build foam-padded weapons and fight with them. It’s a combination of athleticism and imagination that allows a fighter to reach an adrenaline rush unattainable through any other sport. Is it nerdy? I suppose most “normal” people would say so. Regardless, it’s a great way to get out and have fun with your friends as well as getting much needed exercise.
“Trust that little voice in your head that says ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting if…’ And then do it.”
